Optimal site selection to support company’s growing capabilities

The Assignment

Automotive manufacturer aims to expand capabilities with new plant in Thailand

  • Tractus was engaged by an existing client who manufactures automotive parts. The client designs, engineers, develops and manufactures automotive systems, assemblies, modules and components and also assembles complete vehicles primary for the sale to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of cars and light trucks in North America, Europe and the rest of the world.
  • The client seeks to expand its manufacturing capabilities by commissioning a hot stamping plant in Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard area.

Tractus' Solution

Tractus ran an in-depth risk analysis assessment to determine the ideal site location

  • Tractus started by helping the client develop a critical location criteria (“must” factors), theirs being a natural gas pipeline to be made available within a certain timeline.
  • Site locations under these “must factors” were analyzed further.
  • We also helped the client develop “need” factors, where we built a program (KT table) that could run and rank a list of locations.
  • Risk analysis is important in site selection projects in order to adjust the final score and ranking of site locations.

Tractus’ concise risk report provided insight necessary for the client’s actions

    • Tractus’ analysis and recommendations provided the client with best score of site with risk adjustment.
    • The result determined that only one of the industrial estates in Rayong met the client’s criteria and could meet the stringent timeline.
