Maine International Trade Center (MITC) appointed Tractus Asia Ltd. (Tratcus), as their official representative for investment attraction work in China. Tractus has worked closely with Maine on a refined approach to develop a Maine specific strategy to identify and target investment opportunities into the State. The efforts will focus not only on Chinese investors that align with Maine’s strategic industries, but also identify existing opportunities on the ground in the state that could benefit from Chinese investments and partnerships.
“Maine’s vibrant economy and unique sectors have allowed us to work closely with the MITC leadership team to develop an FDI attraction strategy in China that will generate success,” said John Evans, Managing Director of Tractus Asia. Tractus has worked closely with the state to understand not only the key sectors for investment, but also to vet specific opportunities and industry clusters that fit Chinese investor profiles. Some of Maine’s strengths are a robust agro-foods sector best known for lobsters and seafood, but equally strong in berries and other specialty foods; an innovative advanced composites segment creating solutions for aerospace, marine and many industrial applications; and, a growing life science sector with a specific focus and expertise in bio-tech and med-tech R&D and commercialization.
“One on the things that has differentiated efforts in Maine,” Evans explained, “was our approach to identify existing opportunities to market to Chinese investors.” This approach localizes the investment attraction strategy to the Chinese market where investors are typically more interested in providing growth capital and investing into successful ongoing businesses.
