Though the flood waters began to recede early this week, southeastern India’s residents struggle to return to normal life. Tractus’ India office has been actively assisting in relief efforts in Pondicherry and surrounding areas by providing food supplies and blankets to local residents and will continue to support those affected by the devastating floods.
The floods in Chennai and nearby areas of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore claimed the lives of more than 300 people and clogged arterial roads with neck height water, causing disruption to vehicular movement, telephone, internet and power supply. The crippling floods in the city have caused huge losses to the IT and automobile industry. Assocham, a leading industry association, estimated the possible total financial loss to the state to be over US$2 billion.
