Singapore 27 July 2015. Tractus Asia Ltd., a leading Asia-focused business advisory firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Brown as the firm’s first Country Manager for Singapore. Effective July 1, Brown will represent Tractus in Singapore including managing a fast-growing portfolio of business with ASEAN and India-focused clients in addition to his on-going roles and responsibilities as a member of the firm’s Strategy and Implementation Practice.
“We are thrilled to announce Joshua’s promotion to Country Manager. With a transition to one of the region’s hubs for business, we’re confident Joshua will bring the same type of drive and dynamism that has made our foray into the Myanmar market such a resounding success in recent years,” said Dennis Meseroll, Executive Director at Tractus.
In addition to a continued leadership role with the Strategy and Implementation Practice, Brown’s appointment to Singapore Country Manager will also strengthen Tractus’ Corporate Finance and, separately, Economic Development Practice groups. Working with Bangkok-based Corporate Finance Head Richard Smith, Brown will be in-country helping develop Tractus’ capital markets services and on regional M&A and fund raising engagements. Similarly, Brown will work with Shanghai-based Economic Development Head Matthew Koon on a growing list of Southeast Asia-focused trade promotion and investment attraction programs, led off by Tractus’ recent appointment as the State of Ohio’s market representative for ASEAN.
Brown comes to the role following nearly three years as Tractus’ Chief Representative for Myanmar where he has been responsible for the firm’s market entry helping to secure Tractus’ reputation as a go-to market resource for multinationals seeking market entry and expansion and direct investment implementation assistance. Since 2012, Brown has led Tractus’ engagements in Myanmar including advising on direct investment decisions in the mining, porcelain, animal feed, garment and pharmaceutical sectors among others. Recent projects have included investment valuation modeling, risk probability analysis, industrial site selection, supply chain analysis and government advocacy on licensing and approvals among others. Brown sits on the Executive Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Myanmar Chapter and is an active member of both the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and Thai-Canadian Chamber of Commerce as well as the Canada ASEAN Business Council. Brown has spoken extensively on the topic of Myanmar including at forums in Toronto and New York as well as in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore. As one of the earliest business advisors on the ground following the suspensions of US sanctions, Brown’s opinions are regularly sought after and have been printed in regional media as well as Canada’s Globe and Mail and the Washington Post and Christian Science Monitor.
Prior to joining Tractus, Brown worked for an agency in the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department dedicated to building and strengthening industry-government partnerships on topics of high technology cooperation. He has also spent time in South Africa and Ghana in the advertising industry and as a journalist writing for Thomson Reuters in New York and Canada’s National Post in Toronto.
